^ Heading to the KGA senior's activity center together early morning :) | Stimulating logistics briefing for the actual event.
Scrubbing off fungus growth of the walls using bleach and hot water.
Getting to the nooks and crannies of the room!
Important steps before we start painting: 1. Laying newspapers and wrapping window grilles and furnitures with newspapers or plastic drop sheets. | 2. Scrapping peeling paints. | 3. Putting wall putty to smoothen the surfaces and fill any holes!
And of course, in the midst of us painting, we also interacted with our beneficiaries. :) So that our help goes beyond just helping them beautify their homes but also showing them our care and concern too!
When day soon becomes night... But we are almost done! With a bit of touching up here and there.
Though it was a long day, we were glad we were able to finish painting and ended the day with a warm smile in our hearts. <3
This dry run has also gave us the confidence to lead the rest of the volunteers durin...
Hello again! Sorry for the long hiatus but here's a mini update of what we have done for the past month! In April and May, we had several more beneficiary visits. With just two weeks plus left before the actual event, things are also getting busier among the organising committee as different cells have different things to settle and different responsibilities to shoulder on. Regardless, we are all pretty excited and pumped to finally our efforts over the past few months come to life soon in June! So do stay tune and we look forward to seeing you all during the actual event!
We've finally come to the end of our internal drive and we're pleased to say it was success!! From 20-21 Mar, we've stationed our booths all around school, in Science, Arts, Biz and UTown. Apart from recruiting more volunteers for our event, we also sold items like welfare packs, P.Osh brownies and loose snacks for our fundraising.
In the 3 days, we've seen the generosity of nus students with our donation cans being filled to the brim at Arts and many choosing to just donate without buying any snacks. Many also showed genuine interest when we tried to explain to them what PAH is about. While not everyone we approached were as receptive, we've all learned something as it challenges us to step out of our comfort zones. Other than nus students, we were touched to see our own professors, working adults and many Phd students stopped by our booths too and donated generously!
At the end of the 3 days, we are proud to say that we've raised a total of 2.4k! And all these proceeds will go into hel...
On March 4th, we went for our very first beneficiary visit, where we went to visit the beneficiaries our partner organisations have assigned us with. These residents were mainly of the lower income groups who live either alone or with roommates or family.
The main objectives of the visits were:
1. Access the situation of the bene's homes.
2. Collate measurements of the different home's floorplan.
3. Interact with the bene and get to know them.
All these was so that we can decide which beneficiaries to reach out to on our actual event as slots were limited. And by doing so, we also hope we can maximise our resourves to help those that needed help the most. Other than visiting our assigned beneficiaries, we also went door to door knocking as part of our outreach orogram so that other residents that are not under our partner organisations can know abt our event too and hopefully signed up for it.
Though it was a long day, we all agreed that it was nevertherless a good day well spent. Through t...
Ever wonder what will we be doing in the coming weeks leading up to our actual event? Or curious as to what we have to offer for you all? As part of our efforts to keep everyone updated about our event, we will be introducing the Behind-The-Scenes Series! Where we give you a peak preview as to what we are up to & the what to look out for next! So stay tuned!!
Let us recap on the small milestones that this iteration of PAH has seen!
1) Beneficiary visits
2) Internal drive
3) Dry run
4) Actual Event
We sincerely thank each and every one of you for all your amazing support and efforts; volunteers, sponsors and donors, without your help our event would not have been a success. It is only when everyone has come together to make their own contributions can we then make such tremendous impacts in the beneficiaries' lives. We hope everybody continues the spirit of giving and volunteerism, and if you're interested, do volunteer with PAH again next year :)
The first weekend of Paint-A-Home XVII was a success! On 4th and 5th June 2016, around 200 volunteers woke up bright and early to help residents at Jalan Bukit Merah refurbish their homes :) It was hard work as the volunteers helped to move furniture, repainted the residents' houses, brightened up the residents' spaces with hand-painted murals and cleaned up their houses. It was all worthwhile when the residents were pleased with the results :)
Thank you volunteers for your time and efforts, and we hope that you had a fun and meaningful time :)
We still have our second weekend of PAH XVII at Kreta Ayer (11th June) and Redhill (12th June), and we are looking forward to meeting our volunteers and beneficiaries!
PAH XVII would like to thank each and everyone of you for supporting our internal drive in school!! We have managed to raise a considerable amount of donations and fill the volunteer list too, and we are truly thankful for all of your efforts.
If you are still interested in volunteering for PAH, you can still sign up with us to be in the waiting list, and we will contact you once there is any available vacancy.
PAH XVII is back this year for our annual internal drive. We will be setting up our booths from 21st - 23rd March at the various location between 11-6pm, so do grab your friends and drop by our booths.
Paint-A-Home is only possible with the help of student volunteers. Please sign up and support our cause :) we need your help.
